Geneverse is the intersection of blockchain technology, computational AI processes and an experimental art project expressed on the canvas of our universe.

Exploration and experimentation have marked the greatest leaps in human existence, none more so than the exploration of space and worlds beyond our own. It is this spirit that inspired Geneverse – the combination of beautiful spacescapes, the infinite nature of the universe and endless possibilities of outer space, and the synergies between our earliest space explorers and the current revolution of digital authentication, automation and artistic pursuits.

Geneverse creates art that represents humanity’s progress and the creation of new ideas and technologies – a relationship shared between the piece and the process – that moves beyond conventional art forms to reimagine the beauty of our cosmos via emerging digital art forms.

How does it work?

Millions of years of dust, energy, and matter, captured from the cosmos over decades are used as input in a new digital model, utilizing the power of AI and blockchain technology.

Data from various CC BY sources are retrieved from historical archives, individually re-scaled and centred on a blank canvas of 2^10 bits using open source software ImageMagick to create an original and unique piece of digital art.

Each image is linked to a significant blockchain transaction identification which is used as the latent-space motion and appearance parameters in the generative AI model. The model uses a self-supervised convolutional neural network to learn the flow patterns and progression of time-varying fields.

The models are run on a High-Performance Cloud Computer, with each image occupying a single graphical processing unit. Every generative frame from the deep learning model is combined in the final animations using the OpenCV implementation of the H.264 codec and wrapped in an mp4 container for efficient storage on the blockchain.
